  The working principle of the Laboratory nitrogen gas generator is to separate the air, the oxidation reaction occurs on the negative side of the electrolytic membrane, and the reduction occurs on the positive side. After the air flows through the electrolytic cell, only nitrogen and inert gas remain, so the purity of domestic generators is mostly marked "Relative oxygen content", the purity of nitrogen and the air flow rate, the length of the effective decomposition surface, and the strength of the electrolysis potential are all related. This separation method also determines that the purity of nitrogen cannot be very high. The role of adding electrolyte is to improve the conductivity of water, so that the electrochemical reaction can proceed smoothly.


  For chromatography, after the nitrogen generator produces nitrogen, it needs to be dehydrated and deoxygenated (adding a dehydrating and deoxygenating tube), otherwise the ECD detector will be damaged. For mass spectrometry, domestic nitrogen generators cannot reach a high flow rate. Therefore, many people still use liquid nitrogen tanks to support the nitrogen flow rate required for LC/MS.
  The diffusion rate of oxygen and nitrogen gas molecules on the surface of the molecular sieve is different. The gas molecule with a smaller diameter (O2) has a faster diffusion rate, and more enters the micropores of the carbon molecular sieve, and the gas molecule with a larger diameter (N2) has a diffusion rate. It is slower and enters less pores of the carbon molecular sieve. The use of carbon molecular sieve for the selective adsorption of nitrogen and oxygen causes oxygen to be enriched in the adsorption phase and nitrogen in the gas phase within a short period of time. In this way, oxygen and nitrogen are separated, and the gas-phase enrichment nitrogen is obtained under PSA conditions.
