It can be said that from a technical point of view, there are basically three types of nitrogen generation technologies from nitrogen generators, including carbon molecular sieve pressure swing adsorption, hollow fiber membrane separation, and electrochemical nitrogen generation. These three technologies have their own advantages and disadvantages. More broadly, there are two kinds of PSA pressure swing adsorption and membrane separation.
1. PSA pressure swing adsorption: pressure swing adsorption is a nitrogen production technology that uses air as raw material and carbon molecular sieve as adsorbent. It is a kind of porous and loose carbon particles. When compressed air passes through carbon molecular sieve, different gas molecules The diameter and the molecular properties of the gas itself will be adsorbed by carbon molecular sieve, such as water vapor and oxygen in the air, but nitrogen will not be adsorbed, so as to achieve the purpose of being separated and collected; the process of pressure swing adsorption is adsorption decompression-re The rebirth process of adsorption and decompression.
2. Membrane separation technology: Membrane separation technology also uses air as the raw material. Compressed air passes through the hollow fiber membrane. Because different gas molecules have different diameters, when the air passes through the membrane, oxygen, carbon dioxide and water vapor with smaller molecular diameters will pass through the hollow. The small holes in the fiber membrane pipes are then discharged into the atmosphere. At the exit of the membrane, nitrogen molecules with large molecular diameters and inert gas argon are collected to complete the nitrogen extraction process.
From the above brief description, you can basically see some differences between them, but it is not very obvious. Below we will make an analysis and comparison of their respective characteristics, such as purity, flow, size, noise, etc.
1. Purity: Nitrogen plays different roles in different analytical instruments, so the requirements for purity are also different. Under the same conditions, such as intake air volume, pressure, air source quality, filtration system, etc., pressure swing adsorption can The achieved large purity is much higher than that of membrane separation technology; the current market technology membrane separation technology purity is at 99.5%, and carbon molecular sieve PSA can basically reach a purity of 59, which is infinitely close to cylinder gas.
2. Flow rate and volume size: whether it is a nitrogen generator using carbon molecular sieve or membrane separation technology, its size is related to the nitrogen flow rate. The larger the flow rate, the larger the occupied space, but when the flow rate is small, membrane separation Space is dominant. If the flow is large, the pressure swing adsorption of molecular sieve should be more dominant.
3. Dew point or water content: theoretically, the water removal capacity of pressure swing adsorption is better than that of membrane separation. For the pressure swing adsorption of carbon molecular sieve, if the front-end treatment is improper, not only the water removal capacity will decrease, but also carbon molecular sieve powder will be caused. For membrane separation, it is particularly afraid of water and oil. If it is handled improperly, the fiber membrane will lose its adsorption capacity, and the fiber membrane will have to be scrapped.
4. Noise: Between PSA pressure swing adsorption and membrane separation nitrogen production technology, air is used as a raw material to extract nitrogen. Then the noise or air compressor maintenance is the same. The quality may depend on The quality of the air compressor.
The membrane nitrogen generator allows compressed air to pass through the hollow fiber membrane. When the air passes through the membrane, the oxygen, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and water vapor in the air will pass through the small holes in the hollow fiber membrane pipe and then be discharged into the atmosphere. At the exit of the membrane, large-size nitrogen molecules and inert gas argon are collected and transported to the application equipment.
